One Hand, Two Hands by Max Lucado, Illustrated by Gaby Hansen

One Hand, Two Hands by Max Lucado teaches young children about how to use their hands.  Most importantly Max teaches in a fun way how God can use their hands to do some wonderful things for others.

The book has been wonderfully illustrated by Gaby Hansen.  The colors and art work are cheerful and fun.

Your children will probably enjoy this book more than you.  As a children's book I would say the writing is average.  The words are great but they don't exactly flow as well as the illustrations.  I wouldn't turn anyone away from this book but it sure wouldn't be my first choice and Max is one of my favorite authors.

Surprise Post

I came across a link to my blog so I clicked on it to see it was still up. To my surprise it was. I don't know where I thought it might have gone. If I had only waited another week or two it would have been a year since my last post.

My second surprise was that some of my friends are still blogging. I thought it was just a fad or short trend. Is there is a difference?

I actually love to sit down and blog but I got to the point that I was uninspired and just didn't know what to write about. This may be my last post for another year or I may post tomorrow. We'll just have to wait and see how inspired I am. Since it has been almost a year I'm sure I could find plenty to write about...maybe?

In case I don't make it back here tomorrow...

Will is now 8 years old and in 3rd grade. He says 3rd grade is fabulous! There is a lot of emphasis on Math & Science which he loves. The picture above is from a trip we took to Dallas this past summer. The highlights of the trip were the Legoland Discovery Center and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Will loves playing with his Lego's!



Zach is now 4 years old and loves playing. That's pretty much it. He's constantly asking someone to play with him. Non stop. Unless he's watching a "movie" or playing on the computer or Wii. Zach is going to preschool at a local church. He also visits a speech therapist on a regular basis. He has been working hard and has come a long way in the last couple of years. Zach also loves playing with Lego's.

I have a picture of Becky that I could put on here but I'd get in trouble. She is working part time at the same preschool that Zach attends. She actually works in the childcare area where she can hold a baby now and then. If you know anything about Becky you know that she loves the little ones.

I might have more to say tomorrow....or next year!?!?

From bible times to the current times ordinary people have been changing their world. This book is easy to read and understand. It's full of encouragement and challenges that don't seem like challenges. We are all called to make a difference.

One of my favorite lines from the book is this: "In the game of life, many of us who cross home plate do so because we were born on third base. Others aren't even on a team." Go invite someone to join your team.

If you can't tell, I loved this book. Go get a copy now. Read it and let's all make a difference.

Living Life in the Zone: A 40-Day Spiritual Game Plan for Men by Kyle Rote Jr. and Dr. Joe Pettigrew is a daily devotional for the sports enthusiast. The book is broken up into sections that deal with the relationship you have with your wife, children, friends and co-workers. Although geared toward the male sports enthusiast there is plenty of good advice that doesn't require knowledge of sports.

Each day includes: "The Coach's Corner" explores the relevance of the Bible in your life. "The Game Plan" is scripture related to that day's topic. "Playmakers" are real life stories from well know sports figures like Coach Tony Dungy or businessman Truett Cathy of Chick-fil-a.

Each day also ends with some personal questions to think about as well as an assignment for action.

Overall the book is well written and very applicable. The intent of the book is try to create a habit of a daily devotion over the 40 days. I found it hard to want to pick it up everyday but that's more of a reflection on me than the book itself. I found the stories by the coaches, athletes and or businessmen to be encouraging and full of good advice. This book isn't for everyone but I would highly recommend it to the young married sports fans.
